UPDATE:After a great deal of wrestling with the software and signup process, we were finally able to get my daughter signed up for the shop and started printing stamps. On one hand I would give this four solid stars. The stamps are VERY neat and they come out far better than I would have expected. Kudos to the clever engineers who made this kit happen and work.On the other hand, BOY are the stamps expensive. It seems like very few use-cases could be profitable for this product. It is a toy, or fun adult $ toy at best. It is great if you have the disposable income to pay $15 for a very small stamp of something to stamp on your homework when you turn it in...But I can't imagine what you would need a stamp so badly for that you would make sense of the high price to use these stamps.STILL, it is FUN. We caught the unit on sale, but in the long run it isn't the price of the stamp maker - but the high price of the stamps that will put you in the red.I'm going to give this a SOLID 3.5 stars, and I guess that I will round up to four on Amazon. But just be aware of the following...The stamps are smaller than you probably think; They are expensive. Roughly $15 a stamp. There are kits with 2/$15 but they don't come with the wood blocks needed and I can't quite figure out what that means to us yet. Could make them closer to $8 a stamp if it works. The look awesome! The engineering is exceptional IMHO.The ink is also a little costly, not sure if you can use other inks or not.Software is pretty good. The signup and ongoing fees for the design templates is costly, but you don't really need it.Go in with your eyes wide open. If you have the disposable income, they are fun.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------First, let me tell you a quick background on me. I am pretty computer savvy - I am the computer friend to most of the people I know. Technology doesn't faze me and I welcome challenges.I _do_not_ appreciate poor design and poor support. One last thing - I have a 12 year-old daughter that LOVES CRAFTS. We have several Cricut devices, but this is our first, and likely our last, foray into Silhouette products. The difference in the two is JARRING...I'm going to leave an open review here that is subject to change if Silhouette reaches out, explains and fixes the problems. But I will be impressed and shocked if that happens. We will see...Here's our experience. My daughter, through a combination of good grades and other chores and behavior, earned a reward. The Silhouette Mint was something she had been wanting for some time and we ordered it. It took a little longer to arrive, but we chalked that up to Covid and didn't worry about that. It arrived today and it looked to be in brand-new shape and we were excited about getting it set up.That's when things took a turn for the worse.SERIAL NUMBER...As we installed the software, we tried to register the Mint "printer" with Silhouette. After inputting all the required data, we looked on the bottom of the unit and found what appears to be the serial number. There is NOTHING else that could possibly be the serial number anywhere on the unit, in the paperwork or anywhere. When we tried to input the serial number, it would not accept all of the letters/numbers. So we tried to guess at the last parts of the serial number. For example, if the serial number on the back was:123AB45CD100123We tried the full number123AB45CD100123We tried the last six digits100123We tried the last eight charactersCD100123We tried any reasonable version of those numbers and NONE of them worked! So we did a google search - I recommend that you search as well. We searched for Silhouette Mint Serial Number and found lots of comments about not being able to input the serial numbers in the product registrations forms.THEN, I told my daughter, let's just click the "Register Later" button and deal with this later. Let's have some fun with this thing...She got out the card that is supposed to give her a free month of their "Design Store." The directions on how to input the card information were terrible, but we persevered. UNTIL it came time to create an account. We began the process by putting in her name and e-mail address. We put in everything and then it asked us to create a password. My daughter loves critters. She has pets of many different types, so the directions of the password were simple (but annoying) enough. You must use at least 10 characters and one character has to be a number. We used Critter2021Then we had to click on all traffic lights in a zillion pictures to prove we weren't robots.And... it said our password wasn't correct. Not sure why... We tried many versions of different words and numbers and made sure we didn't have anything input incorrectly - it just didn't work.UPDATE: I finally went to a different computer and created a Silhouette account from the internet, we are going to see if that has worked or not.We still don't have the device registered and aren't sure how to get it registered.I am going to revisit this and update later after the irritation has worn off and we aren't frustrated anymore. Maybe using the device will take some of the edge off of the installation/sign up process and we will like it better then. For now I am leaving this up to let people know how irritating the situation was for us. I hope that you do not have the same problems.Picture it: 2011, a dark and smelly time. William and Kate had a royal wedding, and Charlie Sheen went mad talking about his tiger blood and Adonis DNA, which turned out to be his way of telling the world that he had HIV. (I really miss Charlie's public kerfluffles.) Anyway, I was trying to buy a custom stamp for our business, and for whatever reason, it was impossible to find an affordable one that could incorporate our logo and the fonts I wanted. I ended up buying a custom stamp with some generic clip art and a limit on number of lines. We were never really happy with it.I saw this item not too long ago and added it to my wish list. When the price came down enough, I bought it. This is my first Silhouette craft machine. I've never had any of their other machines, and I haven't used the prior software. You can make a different kind of custom stamp with one of their other machines. I don't know how good the quality is. There are several other reviews here that compare the software, so make sure you read those. When I ran the app the first time, it immediately notified me that there was a new version available from the Silhouette web site. Having seen the complaints here, I went ahead and installed the new version without using the old one.I think the software is easy to use, but I didn't use the first software, and I'm used to using graphics programs, so the interface was easy to figure out. If you're not computer-savvy this may not be so easy for you. You'll also find that your choices for images and text will be somewhat limited to the Silhouette online store, and what fonts you have loaded. If you've had prior experience in a graphics program, and /or Powerpoint, the concept of grouping and ungrouping, resizing objects and how to make changes in the fonts and graphics will kind of be instinctive. There are plenty of You Tube videos with people showing how to use the program and make your stamps start to finish. I didn't use any Silhouette images to make my first stamp. I made a high resolution version of our logo in Paint Shop Pro, saved it as a transparent PNG, and opened the image in my first project. It was easy to scale it down to size, and then to add text with our address and phone number in any font I already had loaded on my computer. If you don't know how to make and import your own graphics, you're going to find yourself limited to your font collection and what you can buy from Silhouette.I'm sure the novelty will wear off with time, but it's fun to watch the Mint cut the stamp and to take it out and see your design. One note of importance-- you should leave the thin plastic film on the stamp until after it has been put through the machine and your design is finished. This wasn't completely clear to me until after I watched some videos. It's also important to load the stamp printed side up, into the Mint from behind, and not from the front. I don't know if this thing has stop gaps to prevent you from loading it the wrong way. It does know if you've loaded the wrong size stamp. The Mint itself is not that expensive for a one-time purchase, but the stamp kits are. There are two kinds of stamp packs. One type of pack comes with one stamp, labels, one plastic housing, and one wooden block. The other pack comes with two stamps, labels, and the plastic housing for each, but with no wooden block. The idea with these is that once you have one wooden block, you can interchange all your stamps of the same size on the same wooden block. However, if you're planning to give the stamp as a gift, or you're sending it to work with people who lose stuff, you're going to want one wooden block for every stamp. Looking at Amazon's listing for the blank stamps, it's not easy to tell which pack you're looking at. The two kinds of kits run about the same price, so you'll want to get the single stamp pack if you want a wooden block. The ink isn't cheap, either, and from what I've seen online, other users trying different inks were not getting great results. The bottles I got with the Mint are not labeled with how much ink is in each one, but I'm guessing it's easily .25 to .30 ounces. You lose some in the inking process, too. So when you make a stamp and ink it, you should make sure you really love it before you use cartridges and ink. There is not really a generic alternative for stamps and ink, so you're stuck buying the Silhouette brand for this part. You're going to have to clip your coupons, wait for sales and carefully read the exclusions. This kind of stuff is almost always excluded from sales and coupons at places like Joann's and Michael's.Of course, the question is how good are the images? I've only made one stamp so far, but I don't want to upload an image of the stamping results since it has identifiable information on it. The images are the same as most of the pictures already posted here, and the videos are true to the results I got. I seem to get the best images when I stamp a piece of paper directly on a hard surface, or with only one or two pieces of paper layered underneath. My design had enough space between images that I didn't have a problem with one color bleeding into another. Try not to be sloppy with the ink, and make designs taking into account how close each element is to another.Overall, this is a four star product. It does what it says it will do, and I love playing with it. However, stamps and ink can add up pretty fast. Just be aware that this could be an expensive addition to your crafting projects depending on your skills and compatible supplies.sadly didnt work so having to return it, after waiting for it then waiting for a plug I finally got it all set up and was demoing to a friend and nothing!! just bad luck I got a duff one but won't buy another one!No me gusto y la sigo probando porque quiero ver realmente el provecho que se le puede sacar pero no termina de convencerme además que los repuestos demasiado caro, espero que la empresa cree algo para darle mayor provecho o de última que baje los precios del material porque estoy que la regresoBrilliant fun xThe stamp maker has been on the market for quite some time now but I think even in 2021 it's still useful. The stamps are very precise and crisp! If you're looking for fine detail in your stamps then I think this is what you're after. You can keep on re-inking your stamps for continuous use.Their hardware you must use to make your stamps is simple enough to use but I would recommend if he want to really get a full customizable stamp, you could use any other program and upload it onto their software to print.Getting stamp parts for printing new stamps can be quite costly but it's worth it if you are looking for truly customizable stamps at your fingertips. If you're in Canada I would recommend just going to their website directly to purchase more stamp supplies since it's cheaper. The printer itself is cheaper on Amazon though.
