J. Edgar Hoover was definitely a strange man, with many flaws. However, being an ardent anti-Communist was not one of them. In Masters of Deceit, Mr. Hoover clearly and vividly shows the literally diabolical nature of Communism (Marx was actually a Satanist, although Hoover doesn't talk about that) . The book is good historical reference for how Communism came to be, and presents an accurate history of the Communist Party USA (which unfortunately is still around). Although this book was originally published in 1958, it is still very relevant today. Reading this book was often challenging, due to the distressing nature of the subject. It was a real eye-opener, as I see many of the Communist tactics Hoover talks about in use today - front organizations, infiltration of legitimate organizations, and mass agitation. It makes me wonder how many of the violent disturbances we are seeing today are Communist inspired - Antifa, the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, qAnon, the hijacking of Black Lives Matter. Anyone who thinks Communism died with the Soviet Union is completely deluded. This book is a faithful reprint of the 1958 original.
